A Nation Called Hope - December 2014

South Africans are a resilient people. Our history shows that out of tragic events and trials we find a way to unite and move forward together. Together SA is a free open platform which aims to unite South Africans behind that which is good and inspire hope to all the people of this amazing country. To this end we ran our first campaign on Together SA to support Thuli Madonsela and her team in the Public Protectors Office.

The #WeThePeople - Support our Public Protector, saw thousands of South Africans march online, united with one voice, sharing one message across social media – We support our Public Protector.

A couple of weeks into the campaign Thuli tweeted “The Public Protector’s Team is profoundly humbled and energised by the support”. By standing together, we the people, lifted the morale of the Public Protector’s office, who are trying their utmost to fulfil their role of ensuring clean governance and upholding our democracy under trying circumstances.

The Online March was held on the 18th of November and on the 20th of November, at a function organised by Durban North Rotary at the ICC in Durban, Nosipo Mgojo and Nikita and Keren Stanley presented a book as a thank you from the people of South Africa to Thuli Madonsela. The book comprises “Selfies” and messages of support received during the #WeThePeople campaign for Thuli and her team.

After receiving the book, Thuli Madonsela told Candice Smith from EQ Evolution and Nosipo Mgojo from Venn's that the support they received from the campaign made an immense difference to her team by boosting their morale.

You and I hold in our hands the power to change our nation, to play a role in our unfolding destiny.

For, in truth, as ordinary South Africans, every single one of us has greatness inside and can help make South Africa what it is destined to be! An awesome nation, a shining light to the rest of the world!

May you all have a blessed Christmas!

Keep shining with love and light,
The Together SA team on behalf of Awesome SA.

The Grandfather of Conservation in South Africa

A globally recognised conservation legend, Dr Ian Player was a pioneer, a visionary and an activist who has profoundly influenced conservation and changed the lives of countless people.

We will remember the passing of this South African legend. It was Dr Ian Player who is credited with initiating operation Rhino and saving the few Southern white rhino which were on the brink of extinction over 60 years ago. In the 1960s there were an estimated 650 white rhinos in Africa; by 2010 the population numbered 18 800. It is because of Dr Player, who initiated and led Operation Rhino along with his right-hand man, Magquba Ntombela, that there are still rhinos around for us to save. Had it not been for this incredible man our South African heritage would not have rhinos today.
