Act Now Have Faith - Nov 2011
Hello to all fellow Awesome South Africans
“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors,
we borrow it from our children. ~ American Proverb"
It is the biggest conference ever to be held on African soil. The number of heads of state and influential world leaders attending the conference make this event bigger than the 2010 World Cup. South Africa will be featured prominently in the media worldwide. The outcomes, which will be referred to in the media and written into history books as “The Durban Agreements”, will be debated and talked about around the world for years to come.
This month sees the start of the United Nations COP17 climate conference at the Durban International Conference Centre. While the world holds its breath to see if the outcomes are going to save our planet, we must ask ourselves:
How do individual raindrops merging together make up the power of a raging river?
How do small individual snowflakes cause an avalanche?
The point is that it is the everyday actions of individuals around the world who can drive the change needed to halt the climate change effects.
In the lead up to the conference South Africans are being asked to sign the Have Faith Act now for climate justice petition to ensure a future for coming generations. Hosted by Archbishop Desmond Tutu and supported by Ela Gandhi and Pieter-Dirk Uys, the petition will be handed over to world leaders at a rally at King’s park Stadium the day before the conference starts.
Awesome SA encourages every individual to support this initiative
- sign the petition
- spread the message
- attend the rally.
Regards from the Awesome SA Team.
